FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - CARLSBAD, CA, April 29, 2009 - Premier Nutrition today announces a precautionary, voluntary recall of select ODYSSEY branded bars that contain peanuts manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). PCA is the focus of an investigation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) concerning a recent Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak thought to be caused by tainted peanuts. To date, Salmonella Typhimurium has NOT been found in ANY Premier Nutrition products; however, out of an abundance of caution, Premier Nutrition is recalling select ODYSSEY branded nutrition bars in response to the recent expansion of PCA's recall of peanut products produced in PCA's Plainview, Texas plant.
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. Premier Nutrition is now advising business, customers and consumers that select ODYSSEY branded nutrition bars in the specific flavors indicated below, are included in the recall.

These products were sold in grocery, warehouse and other retail stores throughout the United States as well as over the internet.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are urged to destroy them; if refund or replacement is desired, consumers should remove the "Best By" code found on the back of the package without opening the package. 1) To identify the Best By Date, locate the underside of the long seal on the product package.
2) If your product date and type appear on the list of recalled products, do not consume the bar. You may discard the entire product or proceed to step 3.
3) To apply for a replacement or refund, locate your Best By Date and then carefully remove this section without opening the package. See illustration below. Discard the remaining product and packaging.
